McGill's (7) Midweek Men defeated by OCs
I'm reliably informed the by man pictured (left) that the Midweek team (of just seven*, with Michael of the rugby club sub-fielding) lost to 9 OCs, including ex-Crossers Dominic Mason and Willie McIntyre (before my time, so check spelling Mr Admin).
At Arboretum.
Holy Cross 134/5 (20 overs)
After the openers (Pickering and McGill...) fell early, Bainbro with 42* (giving another nudge to the selectors...) and the returning Rupert Barker with an undefeated 50 batted well.
OCs 135/5 (19 overs)
No bowling performances deemed worthy of note (perhaps Coco got some tap??). Colin was sorry to report that D. Wilkie (playing for the Cross) was dismissed first ball and conceded 'about 50' from his three overs.
* This a pity given that these games are a useful way of getting 'middle time'. The next midweek game is next Tuesday against the Muffers. who are likely to field a fairly strong side.

I'm very much up for next week's mid week friendly!!!
ReplyDeleteTo fill out why i am up for next week,
ReplyDeleteFrom the Mufs Messageboard (sent to me in jest i am sure)
"I have to play!!!!!! So i can give my friend an unfriendly arse kicking!!! Thanks
Oh and lea must play too!!!! xxxxcharxxxx "
Miss Charlotte Bascombe and I have unfinished business you see.....
To fill in a few more details from the game McGill bowled well, as did Rupert who picked up two wickets to go with his 50. Special mention to Simon who bowled to McGill keeping with no pads on!
ReplyDeleteEveryone got a bowl and a bat which is much the point of midweek games. But if you think two of the team don't actually play for the Cross, Rupert was just visiting and Micheal was playing his first game ever, got to wonder where were all the other players?
It seems like plenty of Crossers could do with some "middle time". Jerry was there to see how his back would go ahead of Saturday but no other 2's players.
Lets hope there are a few more at nets tonight and at the friendly next week. I for one am looking forward to seeing Popie get done all ends up by Charlotte.
well said Bainbro.
ReplyDeleteI'll play next Tuesday if only to witness
this contest.
I was under the impression that the BBQ had furthered our good relations with the Muffers
but obviously Popey has done serious damage to the
club's reputation.
Fair comments, chaps, although I think the cup game on Thursday has a good deal to do with the poor availability last night - my knees won't take two midweek outings in a week any more. No more midweek cup games after tomorrow so hopefully things will pick up strongly for the friendlies to come. Put me down for next Tuesday.
ReplyDeletePopEY has done no such thing. Charlotte and I are good friends who enjoy a bit of banter.
ReplyDeleteWe have failed previously to play each other in a game (last years friendly at Roseburn was rained off and we have never met in the league.
Banter (and some last bragging rights) are up for grabs.
P.S, its not just me and Charlotte, a friend from uni Lea Tsui also might be playing, a fierce friend of Charlottes, she wishes to help her avoid embaressment.
This match has a lot of banter and fun written all over it. I fear it may be me who loses out (please not guys, please not)
James, I meant to include something like this
ReplyDelete;)
on my comment
Excellent photo of McGill!!!
ReplyDeleteThink Mr Admin might be ok for middle time to be fair, don't change anything. I was going to play next Tues but as Poppy is promising loads of banter I might have to give it a miss!
Besides the last time I bowled at a girl/lady I was about 14, playing for the Young Farmers against the farmers. A farmers wife of substantial girth came in and I clean bowled her first ball. Got told off for bowling to fast to a woman. Scarred me for life and I promised never to do it again.
Anyway only play friendlies to get a bat...... grrr grrr.
I'll keep quiet then......
ReplyDelete'bowling fast'....when did you give that up....
ReplyDelete;)
As commented last week before the Haddington game, the idea is to knock the OPPOSITION SIDES confidence and belief in their abilities, not our own sides!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry, fast for a 5o year old rotund farmers wife!
ReplyDeletewas at nets last night at about 6.10 for about 10 to 15 minutes. Nobody else there so went home!
ReplyDeleteColin - not sure if you got my email before Tuesday night, but unfortunately I had to attend an important rugby meeting at Murrayfield.
ReplyDeleteAs for nets last night, it was the last night of Touch Rugby at Broughton RFC and I was on the bar all bloody night!!
In fact there was a net session a bit later on on Tuesday night.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, shouldn't Father Jack have a bottle of lemonade too ?
