I believe that the 1sts lost:
All out for 90 odd chasing the 230ish made by Boroughmuir.
Bates and Bonfield the only batsmen with significant scores.
Dougie apparently the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/25.
2nds also lost:
Peebles 190+ all out: Holy Cross 2nd XI 64.
3rds won:
Holy Cross III 191-6 (20 points)
Largo IV 182-8 (9 points)

ReplyDeleteThis is a separate thread now
ReplyDeleteAs Sir Alex Ferguson would say "It was squeaky bum time out there".
ReplyDeleteIndeed a game that should have been over a lot quicker that it should have saw the 3s stay in the promotion hunt with a 9 run win against the uber-sporting bunch from Largo.
Nipun's 60 and a great knock from Russell helped the 10 man Cross (1 up from last week's quota!) on their way to 191 for 6 which was slightly less than Captain Ken would have liked.
Some tight bowling and then some sharp batting from the big Largo fellow who hit yours truly for 20 in my final over (making a mess of my 0-9 from my opening 3 overs) meant it was down to the wire.
The bear essentials of an economical final over from Rupert were required and the young bowler thwarted the big hitter and it was all over!
A win to keep us in the hunt, but a big, big game away to Broomhall awaits next Saturday!
Me again! ESCA have confirmed that three teams will be promoted from Division 8 since Cask & Barrel in Div 6 have defaulted 5 times and will be relegated to Div 8 at best.
ReplyDeleteMark, nice to read about "bear" essentials and Rupert in one sentence!
Oh, and how could one forget to mention Keith Geddes and the most amazing 'Cool Hand Luke' catch!!!
ReplyDeleteYou would have paid money to go watch that!
The captains tuppence worth!
ReplyDeleteA real treat for the neutral played in glorious weather!
Now a heartfelt word for the opposition, they were amongst the most sporting and generous opposition I have ever played against. This game deserved to be a draw (in the old sense of the word) it would have I think have been 10 points to largo and 15 points to us, they didn't get the last 8 runs we didn't get the last wicket! Well done largo you helped make this one of the best cricket matches I've played in!
My Take!! - Lost the toss and the Holy Crocks 10 were duly inserted - I reckoned that we should be looking for at least 200 preferably 220! (God I remember being extatic with 75 back in hte old days!!) Still off we went, Mike and Nipun opening (Mike raising a laugh by shouting "No! it's straight to the fielder" If I had a quid for every time I was run out to the tune of"""! Anyway Mike scored a creditable 39 in his inimitable style and Nipun showed his class and patience in scoring a great 61, eventually stupmed by the largo keeper (12 year old Andrew Eglington, a junior to watch out for!) Scott came in and batted well for another great innings of 28. meanwhile largo's finishers did a great job keeping us down to only 22 of the last five overs! We finished on 191 (20 shy of my preference) and partly thanks to our 11th man Mr Sundries (who ended up 33 not out)
We had a great tea (well done guys the 3rd's teas continue to be exceptional)
We started off bowling well restricting the oppo quite nicely! Score trickling along wickets coming along nicely! Highlights Stunning catch 1 handed near the boundary by K Geddes! Richard as miserly as ever! Nipun bowling very well too! Still out strides their Number 8 (yes 8) the wonderfully named George Zaijeck (who then carved 69 of about 29 deliveries) Still wickets continued to fall including their Skipper Willie Anderson (triggered LBW I thought there were two noises!) still anybodies game Largo needed 16 runs to win off the last 12 balls with 2 wickets in hand and Tonker George still smacking the ball around!! Keith Geddes and Rupert to the pumps orchestrated by Scott (I hadn't a clue what to do!) Keith bowled the penultimate over (2 runs and 1 wicket) Rupert (6 runs and no wickets) largo fell just 8 runs short -
Still another win and a great game of cricket to boot for everyone just a shame there had to be a loser should have been an old fashioned draw!!
Ken
