Indoor cricket.

Holy Cross have entered the inaugural ‘LiveSportOn.TV ESCA Indoor 6's’.

For some, the words cricket, indoor & league may summon up memories of this  (surely-alongside The Ascent of Man, The Singing Detective and Threads- the crowing glory of British television), in fact this competition involves something akin to cricket...

Now we just need a team…

Gary T and Cje play a proper athletic indoor sport but since the rest of you spending the winter evenings slumped in front of the XFactor, you could perhaps do with some exercise.

Can anyone interested please leave a comment to that effect-or email Jon.
We need a volunteer to organize the side…go ahead-seize the opportunity! …if might influence the selection committee currently engaged in the task of nailing down a captain for the 1sts for next season.

Details of the competition:

The competition will take the same format as the cricket Scotland tournament with 4 groups containing 3 teams in each.  The 3 teams in each group will attend on the same night and play round robin, each team will take part in 2 nights thus getting gets 4 games in total throughout the tournament.  Each of the 4 group winners would then attend the finals night for 2 Semi-Finals and a Final being held.
This will be run every Friday night from 20th January to 16th March 2012 at Liberton High School, the 1st game on each evening will start at 6.30pm prompt’.

teams entered are:

Glenrothes CC
Edinburgh Schools Academy
Penicuik
Edinburgh South
Musselburgh
Holy Cross
Boroughmuir
Tranent
Marchmont
Edinburgh Accies
Fauldhouse
Morton

Report from the Marchmont website here.

This surprisingly convincing victory means that Holy Cross 1st XI finish 2nd in Division 1.
This equals their performance (in a differently structured East League: after the formation of the SNCL but before the Leagues and Grades were amalgamated) in 1997, when they finished 2nd to Cupar (and, as in 2011, just above Marchmont in third. Funnily enough Fauldhouse finished bottom of Div 1 that year!). Good stuff guys.

McGill's youthful Midweekers Master Mud

As ever we had a close an enjoyable game vs C & B - despite the wet pitch and the gloomy evening
(not helped by some classic HX tardiness which delayed the start of the game unnecessarily by 15 minutes.......yes guys, you are free to put out flags, tables etc...). The HX XI featuring 5 players under the age of 25....though two of these were Corstorphine CC players.

Some solid batting - with some good boundaries also struck. Followed up by some good bowling (Osama and Suli the pick) and some lively fielding: Ossie, Osama and Nawaz constituting a rather more athletic cover field that usually seen at Arbo.. two good run outs resulting.

Good knocks from Halcrow and Anwar in the gloom (plus Michael's traditional 1 over spell) set up a tight finish-C & B needing 4 off the last ball to tie-was well struck by Daniel but straight at the fielder.

Holy Cross 126/6 (20 overs)
C. Ellis 45 (27), S. Malik 20 (22), V. Gaware 15 (12)
K. Crichton 2/26, Kaeside 2/30

Currie and Balerno 121/5 (20 overs)
G. Halcrow 50*, F. Anwar 30. Kirk Crichton...2nd ball duck..

Come back CA ... All is forgiven...

Parks Trophy QF.

Holy Cross 134-4
S. Pickering 45 (44), C. Ellis 38* (30).

Edinburgh South 123-9
S. Yamjaman 53 (42), A. Pirani 25 (18)
Worsnop 4/0/20/1
Bonfield 4/0/24/1
D. Russell 4/0/20/3
R. Bainbridge 4/0/34/0
P. Lynch 4/0/21/1

"I can see why we've not won this for years"
(R. Bainbridge, 8.37pm, Wednesday June 29th 2011, home changing room (South West corner), Arboretum Sports Ground, Edinburgh).

Here Bimbo succinctly sums up a thoroughly mediocre performance by a (on paper) strong HX 1st team. Probably 20 runs light with the bat, even on a slightly dead track - not enough boundaries smacked. Then a mixture of good batting by the classy Pirani and the hard hitting Yamjaman (with a super-charged piece of willow) and some truly dire f***ing awful HX fielding meant that at 76-3 off 12, ESouth looked like favourites. Dougie bowled the key spell and we took enough wickets (Nozzer taking an important boundary catch to dismiss Pirani) to slow their momentum....just enough. Anyway we won and are through to the semi. But let's not let our STANDARDS slip so far again ... even if CA is absent.

Parks Progress

Parks Trophy 2nd Round (at Arboretum)

Holy Cross 179-3
C. Ellis 58* (25balls), C. A. Smith 42 (32), S. Bonfield 41* (24), E. C. Smith 22 (25)

Casuals 113/9
Logan 29, Crow 18
Worsnop 3 overs/2-4
Bainbridge 3 overs/ 0-11
Millington 3 overs/ 1-21
Russell 3 overs/ 3-17
U. Shazad 4 overs/ 2-33
Webb 2 overs/ 0-17
Bonfield 2 overs/ 1-7

The efforts made in getting out a strong side were rewarded with a good solid win in a highly enjoyable game versus a spirited Casuals side. Efficient dispatching of the bad/ hittable deliveries took us to a good 179-3 on a decent but slightly 'dead' track. Though we shared the bowling around, the very tight opening spells by the two Rob's (14 off the first 6 overs) meant that the HX total was never under threat. Cheers to Casuals for playing the game in a great spirit (even when the ball was disappearing to the boundary fairly regularly)-and also well done for batting so well in the final overs when the light was pretty terrible.

breaking news.... PVB informs me that.....we will play Edinburgh South (at Arbo) in the next round.
