Maccabi make light of McGill's Midweek Men

Wikipedia offers the definition of Maccabi as a reference to one of the Maccabees whose story has become synonymous with courage, success and victory.

Sadly for McGill's Midweekers, the Maccabees of Edinburgh cricket upheld that tag and a man of the match performance by Adeel, hitting 79 (9 fours, 2 sixes) not out saw the visitors win by 58 runs.

The Cross front line opened up well with Patel marking his return with a maiden over and Bainbridge keeping it tight.

Then the hard hitting batsmen decided to cut loose and despite valiant efforts in the field and a heroic wicketkeeping display by rookie McIntosh, the Cross bowlers were given little change from Raja and Adeel who put on an opening 86 partnership.

In response, Mehta (13), Cartwright (17), Ellis (3) and Bainbridge (9) fell as Bargon and Raja grabbed a brace each, leaving Cross looking fragile at 47-4. Patel and Astley stopped the rot with an unbeaten partnership of 65 as the Cross saved some face and posted a final total of 112. Astley was the pick of the batsmen with 3 top drawer sixes in his unbeaten 33.
