Roly Away

Roland's fine performance on Saturday showed how much we'll miss him (he's moving to London, to work at the University of Westminster) and his 'magic extending arm'.

Roland was (fairly) recently the subject of an Evening News profile:

Roly's Super Sixes complete Crosstastic Saturday

Three wins out of three.

Details to follow...

1sts:
(match reduced to 45 overs per side after wet patches on the square
delayed the start by 45 mins)
Heriots 2nds 183-3
S. Knox 61, S. Litster 51, T. Weereratna 31*

Holy Cross 184-7
C. Ellis 48, R. Bainbridge 31, R. Dannreuther 33, S. Bonfield 22.
(Dougie also made 13* before hurting his hip badly whilst diving for
his ground and retiring hurt).

Roland's two superb sixes (with at least 8 men back) turned the game after we'd fallen behind the run rate. Nawaz then played an excellent little innings to get us over the winning line. We needed 1 to win of the last ball and a nice clip over midwicket got us home.

Earlier an excellent effort with the ball and in the field (with Andy G and Nawaz the standouts) kept a strong Heriots batting line-up (including someone who's made 539 runs in the SNCL Premier League this season) to a chaseable score.

2nds:
Holy Cross 2nd XI 140 - Mark Robertson 31, G Lohan (No 11) 22*.
Heriots 3rd XI 107 Ogilvie 47, Lohan and Bates 4 wkts each.

A less than sober 2nd team skipper has just (after chasing up his new Facebook friend..) 'reported'/ Tweeted the following:

'Bring on the cross!!!
In brief, shifty n andy then tom n gerry got us some runs.
Then jb n gerry took 4 a piece.
Andy q taking a top catch.
Fuller match report to follow on website.
Blimey! I'm very very very drunk two consecutive weekends!
Let's hope we can make it three!'

3rds

Holy Cross 3rd XI beat Kirk Brae 2nd XI by 4 wickets.

1sts and 2nds lose

Div 1
Fauldhouse 149 for 9 50 overs

Holy Cross 90 for 9 50 overs

C Ellis 40 no
D Law 10 overs 2 for 7
J Bailey 10 overs 3 for 8

Frankly not much to add from a fairly miserable day on which we conceded too many runs and then soon collapsed to 21-5-albeit against some very tight bowling on an extremely tricky wicket (just ask Dougie and Euan about the balls that dismissed them).

Only two real highpoints: several sharp stumpings from Simon and a superb fielding display from Roland; including an early contender for catch of the season, in which he deployed the 'Dannreuther magic extending arm'.
