  1. match report on the 3rd XI match-from the MDafs' massageboard:

    'MDCC 4s (94 ao) v Holy Cross 3s (20/1) - Match Abandoned

Despite the previous days rain the Arti and outfield was playable and the 4s went in to bat with Raja and Nick trying to pick off where everyone left off last week from the thrashing of Leith. Sadly the plan was only to last 1 ball.

Echoing the match over on the grass a run out off the first ball was to end Raja's innings after an edge through Gully and a mix up had him stranded as the bails came off. Nick Hill set about redeeming himself with Brad at the other end and runs began to flow, although Nick was fortunate to pick out a couple of the more elderly fielders who promptly dropped him.

Now when i say more elderly that means those over 70, and with the score on 71 it was the pairing of McGill and Ellis, who have a combined age of 132 who broke the promising partnership, McGill getting Nick out for 32. Brad kept going despite the increasing carnage at the other end as Saj and Vinod went for Ducks, Vinod first ball, and Sash for just 2. Debutant Hugh scored 6 before he joined Adi back in the hutch, and then Brad perished for 40. At this stage the score had reached just 90 with McGill having claimed 4-16 and Richard Ellis 3-14. Don failed to trouble the scorers either falling to a sharp catch and I was last man out for 2 with Gurjeet unbeaten for another 2. From 71-1 we'd collapsed to 94 all out in just 23 overs. Wily bowling it may have been but it was certainly helped by batsmen not having the patience to stick it out and build an innings.

With an eye on the gathering clouds and to the echos of thunder the Cross began their innings and in the 2nd over Gurjeet struck aided by a sharp catch by Raja. Good tight bowling by Sash and Gurjeet, though not helped by poor fielding, restricted them to 16-1 when the first rain break came. That was a short shower and play resumed but with very threatening skies over Ravelston. Sure enough that arrived but after about 40 minutes we gave it another go.

Sadly that would last only 2 overs more and the monsoon arrived. A very good choice as everyone huddled into the changing rooms just before the lightning started crashing around the park.

That results leaves the 4s still having lost just one game, that against next weeks opponents Drummond Trinity.'
