Marchmont Mauling in Masterton

Cross were dumped out of the Masterton Trophy at the QF stage by an on form and determined Marchmont side at Cavalry Park.

Holy Cross 104/ 4 K. Fraser 50*, S. Bonfield 21*.
Marcmont 108/2 W. Collier 66*, Loeffen 21

Cross were unable to find any early momentum against good bowling from the Marchmont opening pair (Loeffen & Macksimczyk) who got plenty from the wicket. Keith (continuing his recent good form) and Shannon played well but 104 was unlikely to be enough.

So it proved as Marchmont batted in aggressive fashion with Will Collier hitting a fluent 66* and Matt Loeffen 21. Despite a contender for catch of the season from Andy G just inside the Long Leg boundary to dismiss Aaron, Marchmont punished anything loose or over-pitched and cruised passed the total in the 13th over.

good luck to Marchmont in their semi vs Grange.

  1. Straight to the point...104 for loss of just 4 wickets which points out to the fact that batsmen were not aggressive at all which is strange considering that it was a 20 over match

If one batsman who scored 50 was holding at one end the others should have played aggressively even if it means getting out cheaply and there were enough wickets in hand.

  3. I get it now, there's a new Dumbest Internet Comment Award Ive not been told about!!!

The analysis is so wide of the mark, I'd almost guess you weren't there. I believe you could get a job on the tv cricket with such hot air. Not aggressive enough?
The two not out batsmen going at more than a run a ball.
The last wicket to fall was a run out.
The wicket before that was caught on the boundary.

The best team on the night got a good start, making it very difficult for HX to recover. The second best team on the night couldn't take enough early wickets and the Marchmont batsmen capitalised accordingly. One team won, the other lost. Disaster!!!!
