League reconstruction update

Yesterday Paul summed up the situation on the ESCA forum -
In today's Scotsman Roddy Smith is quoted as follows - "We have received the views of the WDCU which are not unexpected. There is a situation where about half the country is very pro-regional and Cricket Scotland itself is very strongly of the opinion that a National League serves no real purpose. We will now sit down and take everyone's views on board before deciding what the future structure of club cricket in Scotland should be."
ESCA representatives will meet Roddy on Thursday morning. The Borders teams are meeting on Wednesday night. I would expect significant progress to be made sooner rather than later.
Because we will have leagues of ten whatever happens, I am confident fixture lists will be much easier to compile with far less clashes and competitive cricket for all.

  1. After many twists and turns Cricket Scotland has decided on the structure for next year, ignoring the recommendations and decision made by clubs at Stirling.

  2. I like it, fresh and innovating. (once you get past about forty pages of repetition and get to the actual restructuring bit).

Sounds like we're going to have to put up with more 'youth development' hassle. Relaunching a Trewartha or discovering a Norrie count for little. Instead we must put in our spare time to develop a player who, if they are decent enough will be stolen by one of our neighbours (who have better resourced policies for our catchment area being mostly attached to local schools).

But no matter, lets have four youth set-ups within half a mile (HX/StewMel/Heriots/EAccies)

Might I suggest a transfer fee for a club if a player they have brought on is then stolen by a club in a higher league? At least a keg of beer per yoof.
